About this tool
Morse code represents letters, numbers, and punctuation as sequences of short and long signals — dots (dits) and dashes (dahs) — originally designed for telegraph operators to send messages over a single wire, and later widely used in early radio and maritime distress signalling (most famously "SOS", written ... --- ...). This tool converts plain text into Morse and back, and can play the result as actual dit-dah tones through your speakers.
Letters are separated by spaces and words by a forward slash (/) — the standard convention for writing Morse code as plain text. Unsupported characters are left out of the encoded output. The "Play sound" button uses your browser's Web Audio API to generate the tones directly, with dah signals three times the length of a dit, matching the standard 1:3 timing ratio.
