Look up a MAC address's manufacturer from its OUI prefix, and decode its unicast/multicast and administration bits.
About this tool
The first three bytes of a MAC address — the OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier) — are assigned by the IEEE to a specific hardware manufacturer, so they can reveal which company made a device's network interface. This tool also decodes the two special bits every MAC address carries: whether it's a unicast (single device) or multicast (group) address, and whether it's universally administered (factory-assigned by the vendor) or locally administered (manually set, common for virtual machines and randomized addresses).
Coverage note: to keep this tool fully offline, vendor lookup uses a small, hand-picked set of well-known OUIs (common virtualization platforms, Raspberry Pi, Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, Google, and a few others) rather than the complete IEEE database, which has tens of thousands of entries. If your address isn't recognized, the address-type and administration bits will still decode correctly — for an exhaustive vendor lookup, check IEEE's public registry directly at standards-oui.ieee.org.
